Itinerary

  • Day 1: Johannesburg or Cape Town / Windhoek Airport / Skeleton Coast NP

Fly with Airlink from Johannesburg to Windhoek Airport. Fly with a light aircraft to Möwe Bay, the nearest airstrip to the Skeleton Coast National Park.  At Möwe Bay, our representatives will pick you up for your transfer to the lodge (average 1 ½ hours’ drive). The lodge is situated at the mouth of the River Hoarusib, with views as far as the Atlantic Ocean!

    Stay: Shipwreck Lodge

Meals: Lunch, dinner, breakfast, and a selection of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks

  • Day 2 & 3: Skeleton Coast National Park

On your Skeleton Coast adventure tour, enjoy two full days at the Shipwreck Lodge, the only lodge inside Skeleton Coast National Park. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, the surrounding area's extraordinary landscapes, and rare wildlife sightings. Although sighting is rare, you can see desert-adapted elephants, giraffes, lions, baboons, and perhaps even a brown hyena or two.  On the shoreline, enjoy sightings of the most iconic species, such as the Cape fur seals.

    Stay: Shipwreck Lodge

Meals: Lunch, dinner, breakfast, and a selection of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks

  • Day 4: Skeleton Coast NP / Hoanib Valley (Kaokoveld)

Today we leave the Skelton Coast behind and venture deep into the north-western corner of Namibia to visit Kaokoland, one of the wildest, most remote, and wonderfully unique areas of Namibia. It’s a land characterized by rolling dunes, rocky mountains, and desert plains, all intersected by ancient, dry riverbeds, which are the area's roads.

    Stay: Shipwreck Lodge

Meals: lunch, dinner, breakfast, and a selection of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks

  • Day 5 & 6: Hoanib Valley (Kaokoveld)

Spend the next two days searching for desert-adapted elephants and giraffes and visiting the traditional village of the nomadic Himba peoples. The region is home to the largest population of free-ranging black rhino, and tracking them is an absolute must or walk with a guide to witness a fascinating variety of birds and unusual flora.

National Parks

Skeleton Coast National Park:

The so-called Skeleton Coast is a 40 km wide and 500 km long coastal stretch in Namibia, a hostile but fascinating area. Here, the cold and unpredictable Benguela Current of the Atlantic Ocean clashes with north-western Namibia's dune and desert landscape. Despite the hostile character of the Skeleton Coast, there are several wild animals to observe, for example, desert-adapted elephants, rhinos, desert lions, brown hyenas, jackals, giraffes, seals, oryx, kudus and zebras. Also, some plants are incredibly adapted to the rainless area of the Skeleton Coast and depend solely on the daily fog from the Atlantic Ocean: welwitschias! Nara melons, several lithops succulent plants (often called “living stones”), lichen and pencil bush (ink bush).

Hoanib Valley (Kaokoveld region):

Kaokoland is sometimes referred to as Namibia’s favourite off-road destination. With an interesting landscape, local culture and game-viewing opportunities, Kaokoland is an utterly unique destination. The Kaokoveld is part of the Kunene Region in the far northwest of Namibia. The Kunene River borders the Kaokoveld in the north, the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the Central North Region in the east and Damaraland. Parts of the scenic Kaokoveld are very secluded, pervaded by mountain ranges and dry river beds. It is home to the Ovahimba, the last true nomads of Namibia, who trek through the area in search of water and good pastures.
