Zimbabwe Attractions & Highlights

Zimbabwe is a country with great natural beauty, amazing game reserves and interesting historical sites

  • Victoria Falls

Lying on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, the mighty Victoria Falls is the world’s greatest curtain of falling water, being 108 meters high and 1,708 meters long. It is thus not surprising that it is known as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The local name for Victoria Falls is Mosi-oa-Tunya, which means “The Smoke That Thunders”, with the mist that can be seen over 40 kilometers away.

Herewith are a few of the many fun and thrilling activities you can do here:

    • Vic Falls Tours (Duration: 2 hours)

The main attraction and number one reason to visit Victoria Falls is to see the natural beauty of thundering water and, with its misty rainbows, the Falls! Known as the largest sheet of falling water in the world, Victoria Falls will leave you breathless. A Guided Tour is a must-do activity when visiting Victoria Falls.

    • Sunset Cruises (Duration: 2 hours)

At the end of the day, take part in one of the most celebrated moments of the day, watching the African sun sink below the horizon in a splash of colors across the skyline. Enjoy wildlife sightings as herds stream to the riverbanks for their last drink.

The Sunset Cruise includes finger snacks, beer, wine, local spirits, and soft drinks.

    • Scenic Flights (Duration: 13 minutes, 22 minutes, or 26 minutes)

A helicopter or microlight flight over the mighty Victoria Falls is perhaps the best way to appreciate the magnitude of this incredible natural wonder of the world! Enjoy seeing the real force of this vast body of water pouring itself over the edge of the gorge, and marvel at the spray! It’s also a great way to snap some amazing photographs.

    • White River Rafting (Duration: Full day)

The river rafting at Victoria Falls is a grade 5 white water rafting and is recognised as some of the best in the world! The adventurous can spend a day white water rafting on the rapids below Victoria Falls. A prime time for rafting is between July and mid-January when low water in the river increases the number of rapids to tackle.

    • Vic Falls Dining

Our recommendations for fine dining in Victoria Falls:

Steam Train Dinner: This Steam Train Dinner will transform you into a bygone era of luxury steam train travel.  The train provides 5-star fine dining as you travel through the picturesque Zambezi Valley in Pullman-style coaches.

Sunset Dinner Cruise: Dinner Cruises offers everything and more. Enjoy the best of both worlds, a spectacular Zambezi sunset cruise followed by a four-course meal freshly prepared onboard by chefs.

The Boma: The Boma is a legendary dining experience that offers an unforgettable fusion of mouth-watering local cuisine! It offers a four-course feast with traditional music, dancing, drumming, and entertainment.

    • Bungee Jumping

Bungee Jump off the famous Victoria Falls Bridge. Experience 111 meters of free-fall and 4 seconds of pure adrenalin! For those of you who are brave enough, bungee jumping is definitely one of the top things to do in Victoria Falls!

  • Boat Cruises (Vic Falls & Kariba)

When considering which boat cruise in Zimbabwe to go on, we suggest our most recommended Zambezi River Cruises which is from Victoria Falls, where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, sunset and dinner boat cruises.

If you prefer to stay onboard, a Kariba Houseboat holiday offers relaxation with game viewing, birdwatching, prime fishing and breathtaking scenery.

  • Walking Safaris – Mana Pools

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mana Pools, is famous for its raw and wild nature. Mana Pools has large tracts of wilderness with no roads and is therefore only accessible on foot, making it a perfect walking safari in Zimbabwe. This makes it one of the best places in Africa to enjoy walking safaris! Walking safaris here are led by experienced guides who reveal big game and many smaller things, such as animal tracks, insects and colourful birds.

  • Armchair Safaris

You might be asking what an armchair safari is. It is a type of safari where you can experience game viewing from the comfort of your chair. The camps offering “armchair” safaris are usually situated at a waterhole. This is ideal if you don’t want to hop in a game drive vehicle in search of animals but rather sit back in a comfy chair and let the wildlife come to you. Several camps in Zimbabwe offer an “armchair” experience.

  • Fishing (Kariba)

When going fishing in Zimbabwe, we suggest going to Lake Kariba which is Africa’s largest artificial lake in the Zambezi River. Kariba is a beautiful place with many activities, such as game viewing and fishing done by boat. Fishing on Kariba offers angling unlike anywhere else! Lake Kariba fish species include the famous Tiger Fish and the ever-popular Kariba Bream.

The best time to enjoy fishing at Kariba is from May to September, when the water is clear and the fish can see the bait. Trolling is best from June through January, Spinning and fly fishing is best from May through October and drift baiting from January through to the end of May.

  • Canoe Safari At Mana Pools National Park

Taking a canoe safari on the Zambezi River offers a thrilling safari experience with incredibly close encounters with wildlife. Most camps located on the river edge offer canoeing safaris. The more adventurist of heart can book the Mana Pools Canoe Trail, which takes several days. These canoe trail safaris are ideal for those who want to explore the Zambezi River and Mana Pools National Park in an exciting way while enjoying the peace and tranquillity of up to 65km stretch of the Zambezi River.
