  • Mount Nyiragongo Volcano Hike

    Mount Nyiragongo is a spectacular stratovolcano that hosts one of the world’s largest and rarest active lava lakes, making it one of Africa’s most exciting and rewarding hiking experiences and one of the main Congo tourist attractions. Once you have reached the summit of your Mount Nyiragongo hike, you will be able to observe its bubbling lava cauldron (from a safe distance) and feel this volcano’s energy, as it heaves and breathes. 

  • Lwiro Research and Rehabilitation Primates Center

    The Center in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, is a rescue facility for primates. Although the main focus is on chimpanzee rehabilitation, it also houses many other species, including baboons and a variety of monkeys.

  • Gorilla Trekking

    Virunga National Park is one of the only four parks in the world where you can trek Mountain Gorillas, with 8 gorilla families habituated for gorilla trekking.  Kahuzi-Biega National Park was the first place to trek gorillas in the 1970's.  Today it is known for trekking the Eastern Lowland Gorillas with 2 gorilla families habituated for gorilla trekking.

  • Chimp Trekking

    This is another thrilling activity in Virunga National Park. Each chimpanzee group is limited to four people and just like the gorillas, time spent with the chimps is limited to one hour.

  • Nature Walks

    Virunga National Park contains several trails leading in different directions and various sites within the park. These incredible nature walks offer great encounters with wildlife including monkeys, elephants and buffaloes. Virunga National Park is home to 218 mammal species, 109 reptile species, 78 amphibian species, 22 primate species not forgetting 706 bird species of which 24 are limited to the range of Virunga. Kahuzi Biega nature trails include hiking to the Tshibati Waterfalls which also leads to three other waterfalls. The walk takes visitors through different vegetation types and a variety of wildlife accompanied by the beautiful sound of singing birds.

  • Mount Kahuzi And Biega Hiking

    Hike to the volcanic peaks of Mountain Kahuzi and Mount Biega that are situated within the heart of the Kahuzi-Biega National Park. These mountains are inactive with Kahuzi standing at an elevation of 3308m and Biega at 2790m. From the top you can see the entire park alongside neighboring communities and other countries. The hike takes you through bamboo and sub-alpine vegetation which harbours various animals and there is a good chance of encountering owl faced monkeys and a variety of birds.

  • Bird Watching in Kahuzi Biega

    Kahuzi Biega is a paradise for bird lovers with approximately 342 bird species of which 42 are endemic to the park. Some of the spectacular birds include the yellow crested-helmet shrike, African green broad bill, Congo peafowl and Rockefeller’s sunbird.
