Travelling to Tanzania: Is it safe?

Tanzania ticks all the boxes when you follow the latest trend where space is the new luxury. Tanzania remains one of the few places in Africa that offers off the beaten track safaris with vast open spaces and abundant wildlife.

 

We (Mariska & Rika) recently travelled to Tanzania to determine if Tanzania is a safe destination. For us, Tanzania should top all lists of places to go on safari, because they deliver incredible wildlife experiences and world-class lodges and camps. As a bonus, staying in national parks keeps you away from crowded places!


Is it Safe to Fly to Tanzania during COVID-19?

We noted that flights have never been cleaner, and airlines adhere to WHO protocols. Sanitising wipes were handed out when we boarded our flight and wearing a mask in flight wasn't too bad. All passengers flying require a certificate proving you are Covid free, as, without this, you will not be able to board your flight.

 

Since fewer people were travelling, we breezed through security and passport control. At the airports, standard safety protocols of sanitising, wearing masks and temperature checks were followed.

Is it Safe to Travel to Tanzania?

Tanzania is still a remarkable country to travel to, and with lodges and camps following WHO protocols, we felt safe throughout our trip. Our safari vehicle was cleaned every evening and sanitised. Plus, with so few people currently travelling, it felt like we were at the perfect place to disconnect from the world and get away from the never-ending negative news cycle!

 

While Tanzania is best known for its exceptional wildlife experiences, the wildlife viewing was even better than before while we were on safari. We saw more lions in the Serengeti than vehicles, and the wildebeest migration was phenomenal. We were very fortunate to see a wildebeest calve born, see it stand latterly in 2 minutes and being able to move with the herd within a few minutes after that.

 

For anyone who wants to get up close and personal with some amazing wildlife, there isn't a better time for travelling than right know and avoiding the usual safari crowds you encounter when visiting East Africa.

 

Covid-19 should not stop you from travelling and being able to see the most incredible wildlife sightings in stunning, wild, and remote locations.


Is There a Travel Ban to Tanzania?

There currently isn’t a ban in place for foreigners. The Tanzanian government implemented temperature scanning for international as well as domestic flights. If anyone is showing symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival/departure, they may need to undergo enhanced screening and COVID-19 testing. Sanitising and wearing masks at airports are mandatory.


What Is the Best Time to Travel to Tanzania?

If you ask us, we will tell you that NOW is the time to go on safari in Africa. Travelling now is the best time to avoid crowds, and with Tanzania being a year-round safari destination, you will always enjoy incredible animal sightings.

 

The best time to travel to Tanzania for safari is usually during the dry season, from June to October. December to March is also a great time as this is the calving season. April and May is the green season, but an excellent time to witness the wildebeest migration on the Central Serengeti plains .
