National Parks

Tanzania’s newest and largest national park – formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve – covering over 30,000 km² (over 5% of Tanzania’s land area) in the remote south. Centered on the Rufiji River system, Nyerere offers a true wilderness safari with high densities of wildlife (elephants, hippos, crocodiles, lions, buffalo and more) and one of Africa’s largest populations of the endangered wild dog, in an untouched mosaic of rivers, lakes, and miombo woodlands.
