One of Africa’s oldest marine protected areas (est. 1968) located on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast at Watamu. The park (part of a 229 km² marine reserve) encloses coral gardens, tidal lagoons and seagrass beds teeming with life – over 600 fish species have been recorded. Visitors can snorkel or dive among brilliant coral reefs with reef fish, sea turtles, rays, and even encounter migrating humpback whales and whale sharks in season.
