A spectacular alpine park protecting the fabled “Mountains of the Moon” along Uganda’s border with the DRC. Covering the main part of the Rwenzori range (which rises to 5,109 m at Margherita Peak, Africa’s third-highest peak), this 998 km² UNESCO World Heritage Site features glaciers, waterfalls, and lakes in a unique afro-alpine environment. The challenging treks pass through distinct vegetation zones (tropical forest to afro-alpine moorland with giant lobelias) and the park is home to unusual species like the Rwenzori turaco, duikers, and endemic Rwenzori colobus monkeys.
