Zimbabwe National Parks

VICTORIA FALLS

Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, is 1 708m wide and 108m in height, making it the largest waterfall on Earth.
The falls can be admired from both Zambia and Zimbabwe, as they are part of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia and Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe. The falls remain the main attraction, with the area loaded with adventure activities, cultural experiences, and accommodation options that cater to all tastes. This makes Victoria Falls a diverse and iconic destination that should be on everybody's bucket list.
The Victoria Falls is in full flow from March to July, and during the dry season (late September to December), the Falls on the Zimbabwe side generally offer better views as the Zambian side may dry up.

LAKE KARIBA

Lake Kariba is the world's largest artificial lake and reservoir by volume and was created in the 1950s when the mighty Zambezi was dammed. With a length of over 220km, a width of 40km in places, and a surface area of over 5,500 sq. Km – looking out over Kariba, you could be excused for thinking you are gazing out to sea. There are vast floodplains with the characteristic mopane tree skeletons dotting the shores. The lake's waters are home to abundant crocodiles, hippos, fish and aquatic birds, while its shoreline and islands are rich with terrestrial game such as elephants and buffalo. You also have a good chance of spotting lion, hyena (spotted), leopard and the occasional cheetah. Some rarer antelope species, like the sable and roan, also grace these shores.

MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK

Mana Pools is a one-of-a-kind place, a piece of paradise on earth and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated in the northern region of Zimbabwe, on the southern banks of the Zambezi River, Mana Pools National Park will leave you breathless with its beauty. The landscapes are beautiful too, dotted with acacia trees, whose shade becomes vital to the parks' more than 12,000-strong elephant population in the dry season, as well as a sprinkling of vibrant plant life. Far away from any human settlement, you'll relish the feeling of remoteness. It is a remote and beautiful game reserve that is home to some of the most legendary safari guides in Africa and is known for fantastic canoe trails and walking safari adventures. Situated right opposite the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, this part of the Zambezi River Valley is home to an impressive variety of species and birds.

HWANGWE NATIONAL PARK

Hwange is Zimbabwe's largest and oldest National Park. Hwange occupies 14,650km2 of prime safari ground. It was granted Game reserve status in 1928 and proclaimed a National Park in 1961. The park's mopane and teak woodlands, grasslands and scrub areas provide a true wilderness experience and some fantastic game viewing opportunities. Hugely biodiverse and full array of ever-changing scenery, the park is famous for the large herds of elephant and game that roam freely through its wide-open spaces. Hwange is known for its herds of buffalo and elephant and diversity of over 100 different mammal species. Black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox, baboon, porcupine, aardwolf, spotted hyena, caracal, leopard, African wildcat, lion, southern giraffe, hippo, warthog and Burchell's zebra are all found in Hwange to name just a few! The large numbers of plains game and antelope in the park provide a rich source of food for the predators. Several white rhinos have been reintroduced to Hwange. The park boasts superb birdlife. Kalahari birds are found here including red-billed spurfowl, crimson-breasted shrike, Kalahari scrub-robin, cut-throat finch, red-eyed bulbul and southern pied babbler. The plains are alive with pipits, larks and wheatears while raptors including the martial eagle, are also plentiful. In the summer months, the list significantly increased by migratory species like southern carmine bee-eaters, black kites and broad-billed rollers.
