Explore Kilimanjaro

To summit Kilimanjaro, the world's highest free-standing mountain at 5,895m is an epic adventure for those who are prepared to take on a physical and mental challenge.  You’ll never forget the moment you first see it, soaring high above the clouds of Tanzania, and you’ll ALWAYS REMEMBER that moment when you reach the top!

Join eXplore Plus Travel & Tours on one of our pre-scheduled climbing dates (where you join other like-minded hikers) or let us arrange a private climb for you according to your preferred dates.

Kilimanjaro is a difficult trek because of the high altitude, and the weather contrasts during the trek.  The main reason that climbers fail to reach the summit is due to the inability to acclimatise to the high altitude fast enough (your body only acclimatise 500m in altitude per day – you gain roughly a 1000m per day on Kilimanjaro).  Even though Kilimanjaro is nearly at the equator, temperatures high on the mountain are freezing.  Climbing Kilimanjaro is challenging so having the right gear and equipment is essential.  We have the knowledge and expertise to give your guidance on the gear you need for the climb and we will send you our comprehensive gear list with our quote.

Climbing routes on Kilimanjaro:
* MACHAME ROUTE - Is one of the most scenic routes that wraps around the southwest and south sides of Kilimanjaro.  Highlights include beautiful Shira sunsets, the great Barranco Wall, Lava Tower and stunning views of Mount Meru.
* UMBWE ROUTE - The most scenic route.  Umbwe’s steep, challenging slopes mean far fewer trekkers choose this route.
* LEMOSHO ROUTE - This scenic route is far less travelled than most.  Lemosho gives trekkers ample acclimatisation time and offers excellent views.
* RONGAI ROUTE - The Rongai route is much easier than the Machame Route but less scenic.  You descend using the Marangu Route, giving you the chance to capture multiple viewpoints of the mountain.
* MARANGU ROUTE - A popular route on Kilimanjaro, also called the “Coca-Cola Route” ascending and descending the same paths and you sleep in large communal huts.

Kilimanjaro has 5 ecological zones including Rainforest, Heath, Moorland, Alpine desert & Icefields. Kilimanjaro is just the beginning of what you can experience in Tanzania!  Before or after climbing Kilimanjaro, consider booking a Safari to one of Tanzania’s well-known Parks or relax on the white beaches of Zanzibar Island!
